NAME CALLING, THROUGH CHRIST (?) -OR- (!)


I recall when growing up how children were often ostracized (today it is called bullied) for practically anything, by other children (and also by adults), different about them. For example, if a child’s ears were extremely large, (s)he might be called a ‘pet’ name such as ‘dumpy-the-elephant.’ Or maybe, if someone’s mom were overweight, student’s might ‘jone’ the child with ‘fat mama jokes.’ At any rate, it was funny to the kids who were not being ‘joned,’ but many times the kid(s) who received the ‘joning,’ were scarred for quite some time. (I recall a kid in elementary school who was ‘joned’ so much until (s)he went home and drank bleach!)
In the Christian Church, particularly, I often have witnessed (and experienced) the very indubitable same thing! Often ‘church-folk’ (these people are different than Christians in the sense that they are, “Any Christian who claims to follow the teaching of Christ but whose belief structure, values and/or actions directly contradict such a claim…[they] are best categorized as individuals so stubbornly and fanatically devoted to their beliefs that they border on sheer stupidity.”)
[1]) will use the Word of God to benefit their own self-serving purpose of, many times what is considered to be bullying. For instance, how many times have ‘church-folk’ attempted to convert individual’s based on when they felt their particular dress, behavior, demeanor, lifestyle, friends/peers, etc. was not in line with what their biblical interpretation and/or theological hermeneutics were? Or even if the same above-listed things needed to be converted according to the ‘church-folks’ time of conversion; which was now! Often times, these 'church-folk' had not even consulted God for His input and/or instructions in the matter.
One scriptural reference I’ve heard used with reference to justification of ‘church-folk’s’ behavior is,
Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. (1 Corinthians 6:9-11. KJV)
Well, yes, such were some of us (1 Corinthians 6:9-11). Moreover, we all have sinned (Romans 3:23). Also, yes; while salvation is received instantly to us (Romans 10:9,10), conversion on some issues takes time (Acts 15:2-4). Furthermore, each individual struggles with her own ‘thorn,’ However, God’s grace is sufficient unto us (2 Corinthians 12:7-10). The point is, I don’t believe God desires NEITHER for us to be changed FORCIBLY by others who contend to be disciples of His, NOR for name calling or bullying to be used as a ‘conversion tactic’ in the Mighty Name of Jesus.
 

PRAYER:

Dear God,

Help heal those children who have been ostracized and bullied, not only by name calling, but bullied in all aspects. Lord, even those adults who carry the scars of being bullied, heal us, in Jesus’ Precious Name.

Those in the Christian Church whose intentions are well, steer us in the correct direction so that we may be useful to build disciples for your Kingdom.

Holy Father, help us to call the names of you, instead of inappropriate names which hurt and/or harm our fellow humanity.
